This was yesterday’s happenings - we went to Laguna for the Greenfield City Sunset Run. We signed up for the 5k event but according to people it was almost 6 kilometers.
Anyway, that’s not even the point of this post here…

The point is this - last Friday I put in 3 kilometers for a last prep work for the Sunset Run. Afterwards, while having dinner I almost forgot that I did a run. There was nothing sore in my muscles.

Reduce.
Reuse
Recycle.
Restore.
Replenish.SAVE EARTH.
Read this on my office mail today…
On Jessica Zafra’s blog, I read her very brief commentary on the stuff that’ s been happening all around - earth related.
Memo from Nature: You puny humans. We could wipe you out with a hiccup.
Very true. All these calamities should tell us something.
We should do our part.

This is for my friend who’s going through something recently. I read this on the Dew View
Survival is about not letting go of hope.
Bad things cannot be avoided. Believe it or not, there is a reason for each and every heartbreak in this world of ours. Just never let your obsessions and insecurities drive you to an early grave and kill your dreams (read this on the Dew View as well).
You can’t avoid the bad stuff. It’s survival not submission. So stand up. Live. Love. Laugh.

I know this Psalm by heart since I was a kid
Psalm 91 - God Our Protector
Whoever goes to the Lord for safety, whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty,
Can say to Him, “You are my defender and protector, You are my God; in You I trust.”
He will keep you safe from all hidden dangers and from all deadly diseases.
He will cover you with His wings; you will be safe in His care; His faithfulness will protect and defend you.
You need not fear any dangers at night or sudden attacks during the day.
Or the plagues that strike in the dark or the evils that kill in daylight.
A thousand may fall dead beside you, ten thousand all around you, but you will not be harmed.
You will look and see how the wicked are punished.
You have made the Lord your defender, the Most high your protector.
And so no disaster will strike you, no violence will come near your home.
God will put His angels in charge of you to protect you wherever you go.
They will hold you up with their hands to keep you from hurting your feet on the stones.
You will trample down lions and snakes, fierce lions and poisonous snakes.
God says, I will save those who love me and I will protect those who acknowledge me as Lord.
When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them, I will rescue them and honor them.
I will reward them with long life; and I will save them.

Got this message on the mail today
If you do the possible, you don’t need miracles. Move beyond the borders of the possible. Get into the realm of the impossible. Here you will find God in a more obvious way.
This message comes to me in a most timely manner.

Let’s say we have this situation
You encounter a person who you think you connect with turns out to be not that type of person after all.
A very similar thing happened to me recently. Actually, it happens at some points in our lives, multiple times. This is just a perfect example where you have this situation happen to you a number of times, but you react in different manners to that fact. I mean, in my own reflection, I know that the old me would take it personally, on the emotional level. But my present self does not.
This realization caused me to make a side by side comparison with other similar things that happened in my life. Like with my work. Whenever there is an issue or problem, my old self would react with passion. Now I don’t react with the same intensity.
I’ve become that Oh well kind of guy.

I found this quote online as I was contemplating about silence (in silence) over the weekend
Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it’s all over. - Gloria Naylor
These statements completely describe my thought process about the friendships that I have. I mean, I believe that a good friend is not always there to judge (emphasis on the not always). Sometimes it’s best to be there to listen and observe, and to finally be ready to catch our friends when they fall.
Of course, sometimes our friends need to hear the unadulterated truth from us. It’s all a matter of appropriateness, I guess. Like Gloria Naylor said, “being a friend means mastering the art of timing.”
There are times when silence has the loudest voice. - Leroy Brownlow
Sometimes our support can be better conveyed in the absence of words.

Just because it’s true doesn’t make it nice, because some truths are better left unsaid, especially if it’s something that would crush someone’s self-esteem. Sometimes being a good human being means knowing when to not say things…
I heard that from the Tyra show and the episode was about discrimination towards plus-size people. I related to it, not that I was actually discriminated for my size. No, I think Filipinos are too nice for that. Those kinds of things come to me in the form of encouragement… annoyingly happens when I’m hanging on to dear life spelunking, or climbing a mountain (I’m talking literally here, which explains the annoying part).

(Me at a friend’s wedding in 2006)
I’m talking more about my self-image, and how a poor sense of self-image led me to be very big. It took a realization to building a sense of appreciation to myself to acknowledge that I, like every living thing God created, am beautiful.

(Me now)
Since then I have decided to embrace life. I started to live a more active life. Even other people noticed that I became a happier person, overall. That’s because I am.
I guess what I’m saying is that at the end of the day it’s not about the calories, fat content, and beauty regimen. It’s about realizing that the inward - yourself - and the outward - everyone and everything else - are all beautiful creations.
Hope everyone’s Holy Week is as meaningful…
