We had our monthly potluck at the office yesterday. I think it’s been about 6 months since we started doing this. This time it was for merienda.

Of course the O.C. that I am, I had to check the spelling, and saw this meaning on wikipedia:
A potluck is a gathering of people where each person or group of people contributes a dish of food to be shared among the group. Synonyms include: potluck dinner, spread, Jacob’s join, Jacob’s supper, faith supper, covered dish supper, pitch-in, carry-in, bring-a-plate, smorgasbord.
The word pot-luck appears in 16th century England, in the work of Thomas Nashe, and was there used to mean “food provided for an unexpected or uninvited guest, the luck of the pot”.

This is Steph trying out Camilla’s herring dish. This is delish btw.

We tried to stay around the theme of native food.

I actually missed having this when I was in Denmark at my former office’s lunch spread. Camilla let me take home the jar hehe

This is what we call a fun afternoon coffee break, definitely!

We were at a meeting with a visiting expat today when he talked about trying our halo-halo

I remember whenever we explain this piece of heaven to foreigners, we always end up calling it mix-mix. Anyway, I suddenly craved for it and this afternoon I got my fix

We had planned to do this last Monday, since one of our friends, Jackie, was really wanting it. It doesn’t really take me, Rubi and Steph a lot of convincing to do the Red Kimono Buffet hehe
This is an ala carte buffet, by the way. They make what you want, so the food isn’t sagging in some long table. At 535Php a pop, it is not cheap but there are a lot of more expensive eat-all-you-can restaurants out there. Don’t worry, it’s worth it.
We did our rounds of Cruchy Maki, California Crunch, Salmon and Cream Cheese Maki, Yakitoris and Teppanyakis. Everything was yummy!

I am so loving the desserts. The Green Tea Ice Cream was great, as usual. Everyone had second servings of the ice cream. But I did find a new appreciation to these… Continue Reading »

So I wore my foodie hat today and brought my nephew Jude to one of my fave restaurants, Red Kimono.

Studying in a Japanese university, I think he really appreciated the experience.

Yesterday was a bad day to decide to commute to work, promise… The rained poured hard like crazy
Then it was another hectic day at the office, with me juggling 2 projects in hyperdrive. Good thing we went to this great new place around the corner - Kebab Factory

I’ve just downloaded a week’s worth of pictures from my Nokia 5530 today. For a very affordable phone, the camera is good

These are shots of my friends here, some during lunch and some during a meeting. The Frog pic is a magnet I brought from Sweden back in January.
Yesterday we went out to try Kirin. It was my first time there.

A few months back I raved about one of the best places to grab lunch and desserts - Secret Recipe. That was quite a long time ago. Anyway, I received this comment on my site today.
Hi Angelo!
Thanks for buying from Secret Recipe.
I hope you all enjoyed the chocolate cakes you bought!
(btw, the cakes are from Malaysia just as Secret Recipe originates from there)
Hope you’ll try our yummy dishes as well such as lamb shank, grilled chickens, prawn macaroni with cheese and lots more
For more offers to our valued guests please visit http://www.secretrecipe.com.ph/promotions.html
Take care and God Bless,
Secret Recipe
I originally thought that the cakes came from Thailand. My bad. Well, what could you ever expect from ‘word of mouth’ you know, if not unreliable. But its refreshing that it is spread through that, and not flaunted on a sign somewhere.
The reason for my buying those things being ancient and irrelevant and notwithstanding - the food at Secret Recipe is indeed yummy. Since I work at the Fort, it’s very accessible comfort food for me. (I hope I get a hefty discount now hehe. ;-))
Anyway, I clicked on the site and I saw this

To put it simply, heaven.
That’s it, I now have THE PLAN for my afternoon snack later.
